KLUB Connect is the BGCSCT teen program that is affiliated with the BGCA’s national Keystone Club, “The Ultimate Teen Program.” Our Club is positive place for teens, who now, more than ever, are faced with negative influences and overwhelming peer pressures, especially during non-school hours. BGCSCT offers affordable, quality programming designed to support teens as they learn to make healthy lifestyle choices.

KLUB Connect consists of young men and women who elect their own officers and implement their own activities in five core areas:

  • Character and Leadership
  • Service to club and community
  • Education and career exploration
  • Free enterprise
  • Unity and social recreation

These programs equip teens to not only overcome negative influences, but become positive influences in their surrounding community. KLUB Connect is also unique in its reliance on social media. Members communicate with staff, other members and teens in the South Central Texas through Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter.

Keystone Program

Keystone is BGCA’s premier teen leadership program. Founded in 1964, Keystoning meets teens’ vitally important needs for positive group experiences. With the guidance of Club staff, opportunities are provided for teens to make leadership decisions and engage in academic and career experiences. Our goal is to promote character and leadership among Club teens to provide impact in three focus areas: academic success, career preparation and community service. The cultivation of good character and effective leadership supports the development of productive, responsible and caring citizens and fosters successful high school graduation, broader employment opportunities and lifelong civic engagement.

Youth of the Year

Established in 1947, Youth of the Year is BGCSCT’s premier recognition program for Club members, promoting service to Club, community and family; academic success; strong moral character; life goals; and poise and public speaking ability. The program is most effective when used as a year-round tool for fostering young people’s character, personal growth and leadership qualities.

BE GREAT. GRADUATE

This program is BGCSCT’s dropout prevention program, designed to enhance each Club member’s engagement with learning by providing consistent support from caring and trusted adults in developing the academic, emotional and social skills needed to achieve academic success. BE GREAT. GRADUATE. uses the early warning signals — attendance, behavior and course failure — to identify youth at risk of dropping out of school.

CareerLaunch

CareerLaunch encourages Club members ages 13 to 18 to assess their skills and interests, explore careers, make sound educational decisions and prepare to join our nation’s work force. Club staff or volunteers use the Career Exploration Quick Reference Guide to work with teens individually or in small groups to build their job-search skills and job readiness. The easy-to-read, pocket-sized CareerLaunch Teen Tips is full of practical job-hunting advice for young people. The CareerLaunch Web site provides Club teens, staff and volunteers with online career exploration, college and job search information and interactive activities. Mentoring, job shadowing and training opportunities round out the program.

D2D: Diplomas to Degrees

This program is the newest BGCSCT Program. Toyota and Boys & Girls Clubs of America have teamed up to help kids graduate and achieve a great future. By collaboratively developing the new “Diplomas to Degrees” curriculum, or “D2D,” more than 20,000 teens will have access to educational tools and resources to help them graduate from high school – and pursue post secondary education – over the next five years.

Power Hour: Making Minutes Count

If you ask our Club members why they like coming to the Boys & Girls Club, many of them would say ecstatically, “I get to finish my homework!” Power Hour helps Club members be more successful in school with homework help and tutoring. As YPDs implement this program, they encourage members to become self-directed learners through positive reinforcement and incentives.

Triple Play

This physical-education-oriented program teaches youth ways in which to be more healthy and fit through various sports and nutritional exercises. Triple Play offers club members a chance to athletically and nutritionally reach daily challenges set forth through its sessional components of mind, body and soul.

Healthy Habits

Designed to incorporate healthy living and active learning in every part of the Club experience, Healthy Habits emphasizes good nutrition, regular physical activity and improving overall well-being. The program, for ages 6 to 15, is the Mind component of Triple Play: A Game Plan for the Mind, Body and Soul.

During the academic year, KLUB Connect provides young people ages 14 to 18 the opportunity to participate in a unique leadership development experience. The signature program is KLUB Saturdays, when members gather at the Club for fun, games, and to talk with guest speakers from the community. Another primary aspect of KLUB Connect is High School Lunch Mentoring Outreach. With this program, we strive to make mentors, in the form of Club staff and volunteers, available to all high school students during lunch hours on a consistent, scheduled basis.

The BGCSCT’s goal is to promote character and leadership among Club teens to provide impact in the three focus areas: academic success, career preparation, and community service. The following dynamic programs help achieve this goal: Youth of the Year; BE GREAT: GRADUATE; and Career Launch.
