The Boys & Girls Clubs of South Central Texas places a great deal of significance on Fine Arts. Students are motivated to learn at higher levels in core subject areas when they are given the opportunity to explore their interests and talents in Fine Arts. Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s art programs are the cornerstone of the BGCSCT Fine Arts program: Drama Matters, Music Makers, and National Fine Arts Exhibit Program.
Drama education builds self-confidence, sparks creativity, and boosts academic achievement. From acting to writing to producing, the TNT Drama Matters program is a great way for students to explore the many occupations related to the performing arts.
Students will have the chance to learn about acting, playwriting, and other dramatic activities while discovering their strengths by trying out improvisation, creative writing, and dramatic performance production.
In this program Club members meet music professors, musicians, and other professionals; exposing them to potential Career paths in the field of music.
Students in this program also get a chance to meet music professors, musicians, and other professionals in the field of music, all while preparing a musical piece to accompany the Drama Matters production.
This program encourages artistic expression through drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, mixed media, and sculpture displayed at local and regional exhibits. The class focuses daily on producing pieces that will be displayed in a local art show where judges will select pieces to be entered into the Regional Exhibit.
This is where a panel of distinguished judges selects works for inclusion in the National Fine Arts Exhibit, which is displayed throughout the year at BGCA events, including the National Conference. Each winning artist’s work is featured in a virtual gallery on BGCA’s Web site. Students also work on props and set design for the dramatic production in the Drama Matters class.
